Match Report

The Anzacs were pitted against 3United early on Saturday morning. Half of 3United, being away last week for the Phuket 7s, had now returned eager to take on the never-back-down-from-a-tackle Anzacs. The first 20 minutes were slow for both sides, but Nick Law of 3United decided to change that. He fired a beauty across the Anzacs’ box blazing into the left corner of the goal – giving 3United a 1-0 lead. This would be the only score of the half.
3United continued to dominate possession into the second half leading to a precision grounder past the keeper by Nate Jones to put 3U up 2-0. In the 70″, Julien Walemme received a cross in the box and blasted it into a defender, which then ricocheted off, hit another defender and spun into goal for an OG. The Anzacs saw 2 or 3 chances in the last 20 minutes by forwards Reda El Gacham and Rick Howard, but 3United was able to keep them scoreless. Most memorably, 3U keeper, Joren Bredman, made a miraculous save, sacrificing his head against the goal post to tip a ball past the net. He was able to walk away from the hit with no serious damage. In the end the 3United defense prevailed and gained a cleansheet with the final score 3United – 3, Anzacs – 0.

– Joren Van der Stars: 9/10
A calm morning for Joren in goal, as the opposition only threatened on a few occasions. He was present when we needed him, and made a great intervention which cost him a few neurones but allowed 3U to get their second clean sheet of the season.

– Derek Salsacido:7,5/10
Derek had a bumpy start to the game (his mind was still in Patong beach) but gradually showed what we all know he is capable of: Impact,Speed, going 100% into duels and picking up bruises and knocks like only he knows how to do.

– Romain Blancsailly:8,5/10
The calm warrior at the back of a solid 3U defense, Romain showed good vision and intelligence to start the team’s moves from the back. Clearly inspired by MamadhouSakho’s performance vs Ukraine as he had a great opportunity to score from a corner.

– Alvaro Camp Navarro/ Birthday Boy: 9/10
Just like Chianti wine, Alvaro gets better and better with age, as many Italian players do. Always present on the 1st ball, his composure allowed 3U to calmly start their passing game from defence to attack.
Buoncompleanno Alvaro!

– Fabian Lahmborghini: 9/10
Was there a left wing in the oppostion team? If there was, Fabian completely annihilated him as no danger came from his side. Good Anticipation and a couple on good moves going forward for the Lahmborghini.

– Jean Didier Deschamps de la montagne a cheval: 8.5/10
JD did the dirty work that we want all Defensive Midfielders to do. Vigilant, disciplined, he was constantly harassing the opposition midfield and giving the right pass to recycle the game.
Note: -0,5 for not having the Baijiu shot 😉

– Enock Cisse Jr: 8/10
Who said you needed to be tallest player on the pitch to win air balls? Quite amazingly, Enock won 99.9% of the high balls coming his way. A strong center midfield display that we hope will be repeated in the future. Pink,Blond… whats next Enock? ^^

– NFL=> Nick Fury Law (Man of the Match) 10/10:
Nick started this match in the number 10 position in which he is getting much more accustomed to. A terrific strike in the bottom left corner from 22.2 meters just shows you how dangerous he can be in this position. A couple of good corner kicks, availability and simple passing and you have the ingredients to be the next MOM ^^

– Sergio Pavarotti: 7,5/10:
During the warm up, Sergio was busier practicing his voice than his football. All of this to prepare a marvellous celebration if Etienne scored (which was not about to happen with 5.7 shots and none on target). Not an easy game with a fullback constantly fouling him but despite that still managed to give the pass for the first goal.

– The Vernonator: 8,5/10
Vernon’s physical presence up front is just impossible to cope with. Once it is at his feet, it becomes really hard to take it from him and he caused Anzacs big problems thanks to that. Playing the lone striker role excellently by keeping up the ball for his teammates, he was unlucky not to start on Saturday.

– Nate The Blond Dempsey: 9/10
Nate had a very solid performance on Saturday, scoring the second goal for the team with a well placed shot from just outside the box. He distributed smart passes to the wingers and midfielders around him. Almost assisted a 4th goal towards the end of the second half.

– Julien Scorpion King: 8.6969696969696969/10
He contributed to the game with his physical presence in midfield, entertained us with his acrobatics and then decided to score a nice side footed goal from inside the box (might also have been an own goal but its always better if one of our players score ^^)… surprisingly he did not show us the true meaning of ‘Hot Pants’ after that.

– Dean MovemberBai Jiu:7,5/10
He helped the team secure the win and the second clean sheet of the season with a good defensive performance at right back. His 1 week moustache had a little taste of the grass at the beginning of the second half when he tumbled to the ground as he remembered there was BaiJiu waiting for him on the bus!

– Alvaro Rocaniesta: 8/10:
He played in an unfamiliar winger role, which should suit him more and more as games go on. Despite that, 3U’s newest recruit showed that he is not only skilful with his hands, but also with his feet as he gave a great madjer style pass inside the box.
