3United faced off against their old rivals United at midday in Songjiang in some fine autumn weather. After having a three week break due to holiday and working weekends, both teams were anxious to get back into the season with a victory.

The first half started slowly with both teams pushing hard on the defenses, neither able to penetrate the back lines. About 25 minutes in, 3United was able to put together an impressive string of passes which ended with Luismi Ramos finding Nick Law free at the top of the box, who then put a solid shot into the back of the net past the keeper’s out stretched hands. 1-0 to 3United. However, 10 minutes later, United were pushing tenaciously down the right side looking to squeeze a cross into the middle. The cross deflected off a defender’s foot into the path of the United forward (possibly offside) who was able to put the ball past Steve Rowland in goal, tying up the game at 1-1. 3United had another good look on goal but were not able to take back the lead, with the half finishing at one goal a piece.

After collecting their thoughts, 3United took the field during the second half with renewed tenacity and spirit. The second half was dominated by 3U play moving the ball quickly and effectively through the United midfield. 65 minutes in, Vernon Tebong Mbah made a dash down the left side dragging 2 defenders with him, then crossing teh ball to Luismi Ramos who chested down the ball outside the keeper’s box and blasted the ball into the back of the net, putting 3U back in front 2-1. 3United had a handful of chances on goal to extend their lead while United had a few corners, but in the end the score remained unchanged. This extended the 3U winning streak to 2 and are now sitting in second place, with 6 points, behind Voodoo who have one more goal scored. United lie in 6th with 3 points.

Final score: 2-1, 3United. Vernon Tebong Mbah earned MoM honors for 3U.
